Hello Jenny, it's a young Red-kneed Dotterel, many people have trouble with
them at this age, cheers Jeff Davies.

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Dotterel identification help needed.
HI List,
I was birding at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, NSW yesterday & saw an
unfamiliar Dotterel with the Black-Fronted Dotterel. I managed several photos,
although they are not very good because they birds are so little and weren’t
close! At the time I thought it was probably a juvenile BFD although it was a
bit larger than the adults and they were ignoring it. However, searching on the
internet, the few photos I can find of juveniles & chicks show them with the
black mask and white eyebrow when when tiny. I wondered if it could be a young
Red-Kneed Dotterel, but have been unable to find much in the way of online
photos.
I would appreciate any opinions on the identity of the bird.
