i have noticed many Aust Swiftlets up here over the years with a very dull rump
patch, almost indescernable at times...
i've always dismissed them as Aust Swiftlets of variable plumage ....
maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not...
but, many swiftlets around Cairns do show a rump patch that is certainly not
grey-white, there is no doubting that....
maybe we all need to take a closer look at these birds, including me, but I
haven't yet convinced myself that I'm looking at Uniform Swiftlets, since I
feel that these darker rumped birds that I have seen are likely just dark
individuals of Australian... but don't ask me why, it's just that I see such a
number of them that I'd always assumed they would therefore be just dark Aust
Swiftlets!!
I'd love to be proven wrong though...!!
