Why strange? I think this makes sense:
"Aligns IOC with H&M, BLI, HBW, Clements; reduces confusion with the eastern
race of Eurasian Curlew"

Another minor change is Eastern Curlew becomes "Far Eastern Curlew".
Strange.

The IOC 3.3 list is now available at worldbirdnames.org. The only obvious
change for Aussies is that Hooded Plover/Dotterel is now Thinornis
cucullatus.

I have updated the C&B comparison page at
http://birdlifephotography.org.au/photogallery/taxonomic-changes to reflect
this.

Incidentally I have for my own interest been working on adding IOC 3.3
subspecies to the BARC 2.0 list.  I have not added them for vagrants and for
some waders and pelagic birds as the IOC list is unclear, but I am happy to
send a copy to anyone who wants it

Dave
