George Swann is currently photographing a large 'black-backed' gull at the
Broome rubbish tip. Council workers spotted the bird yesterday morning but then
it went AWOL but returned today. It is an adult with white head and tail and
orange spot on [yellow] bill. It is dark grey rather than black above and has a
broad white trailing edge to wing so could be a Kelp Gull. However, at this
stage other species are not ruled out. Should receive photos later tonight.
