Hi Stephen,
I know Australian Brush-turkeys are regularly seen at the nearby Field of Mars Reserve, so perhaps your turkey has wandered over from there. We see them in Epping quite often.

I observed an Australian Brush-turkey at the end of Robinson Road, Ryde
about 15 minutes ago. It was at the entrance of the driveway to a villa
unit complex at the end of the road. Buffalo Creek Reserve is adjacent to
Robinson Road and the villa complex. This is the first time I've seen an
Australian Brush-turkey along or adjacent to Buffalo Creek (part of the Lane
Cove River catchment) in the 8.5 years we've lived here. Ryde is about 12
km NW the Sydney CBD.
