I think this is almost definitely a White-plumed Honeyeater. When I first started birding I used to think of it as 'pretty sweet, pretty sweet, pretty sweet', which would translate to your 'cocka- whet' quite well. White-plumed Honeyeaters are at home in river red gums over a huge area.

I keep hearing a call but for the life of me can't see the bird for the 1000's of Red River Gums I seem to hear the call very close to the river and not back towards the town levy bank. Unfortunately I've not been able to record the sound but I'm hoping someone might know

Cocka Whet Cocka Whet Cocka Whet then a break and then repeated again with a break etc.
