My wife and I expect to be in South Australia in early November and
would like to look for Mallee Emu-wren. I was hoping to look at Pink Lakes,
Vic., which is a bit easier for us to reach on this trip, rather than driving
around to Hattah.
From info on the web, it seemed like looking along Pioneer Road at Pink
Lakes would offer us our best chance. Is there a particular area along this
road that we should try? Are there other places at Pink Lakes that we should
try? Are there any sites in South Australia that we should try as back-ups?
I have the new Thomas/Thomas/Andrew/McBride guide, which mentions that Mallee
Emu-wrens occur at Billiat, and other sources have suggested Ngarkat. However,
reports of burns in both these spots made them sound less promising.
We also hope to visit the Flinders Ranges to look for Yellow-footed
Rock Wallaby. Are there any particularly good places to try for these lovely
creatures?
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
