Hi Chris,

Looks like a non-breeding Eastern Yellow Wag (M. tschutschensis). I would have
thought that (even late) September would be early for these guys on mainland
Australia, maybe not? Interesting record.

G'day all,

I hope your Grand Final has been a blast. Not having the slightest interest
in either team, I spent it down at the Alice Springs Poo Ponds. Will
Cormack joined me and managed to relocate the Grey-tailed Tattler and a
male Chestnut Teal, but Will's main contribution to the afternoon was the
discovery of a *Motacilla* wagtail in EP7C.

I put the word out, and we soon had several extra pairs of eyes, bins, and
a scope scrutinising the bird to within an inch of its life. There are a
few candidates and we ummed and aahed for a while, but didn't really get
closer than whittling down the possibilities to 2 or maybe 3 species. It
was very late in the afternoon, and the bird was staying well out on the
mudflats.

A selection of my photos are up on the blog, and though they aren't great
pictures by themselves, they may contain enough features for someone out
there to piece together an ID. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Pete Nunn
also got plenty of photos which may prove conclusive, and if the bird hangs
around until morning we may have a better chance of getting some better
pics.

My pics are here; http://comebirdwatching.blogspot.com.au/p/id-help.html

Thanks once again,

Chris Watson
