Stuart,
Whilst there are a few migratory owl species, all tytonid owls tend to be
sedentary. The furthest ring recovery of an adult Barn Owl was 500 km away from
its home, the furthest of a young one was 1600 odd km away (Koenig et al. 1999:
Owls. A guide to the owls of the world - 1st edition [I don't have the second
edition here]). Ringing recoveries of (Eastern) Barn Owls involving distances
of 65-840 km have been reported from SE Australia, with vagrants reaching as
far as NZ (del Hoyo et al. 1999 HBW, see also Higgins 1999 HANZAB).
Cheers,
Nikolas

Subject: Barn Owls.
Most owls seem to be sedentary because the live in environments with a wide
range of food. Regarding Barn owls can anyone comment or provide a source
that indicates that Barn Owls move out of a normal home range to benefit
from food gluts.
