Brian,
You are correct that green timber weighs more than dry, however 1.4 is the
standard used Australia wide (including Forests NSW) for dry River Red Gum
(as I indicated in the email). It's probably why River Red Gum is the
preferred source of firewood for many wood fire owners.

There is an error here - 22.5 tonnes per cubic metre suggests a density of
1.4 for SOLID red gum compared to the CSIRO value of 1.2 for GREEN timber
and 0.8 for dry. Collected timber will be mainly dry, and will be "loose" in
the trailer. I would not expect a cubic metre of collected firewood to weigh
much more than half a tonne.
Despite this, I deplore the amendment.
