Tom,
it is heading this way because the green movement has lost all credibility with mainstream Australia
it is heading this way because we are now saddled with a tax that will impact heavily on Australian business and Australian people and will do zero, zilch, absolutely nothing to affect CO2 levels on this planet, and this is all thanks to the green movement
it is heading this way because farmers cannot now create effective firebreaks around their properties because that would be clearing vegetation
it is heading this way because the green movement has lost its way and now focusses on supporting illegal immigration, supporting "marriage" between same sex couples etc
it is heading this way because the Greens continue to shore up a corrupt, inept prime minister and government
it is because the green movement have not debated GM logically, but have resorted to unlawful activities to attempt to undermine the ideas
it is because animals such as the sulphur crested cockatoo, which cannot be considered endangered by any reasonable criteria, cannot be legally exported, but are allowed to cause havoc to primary producers in local areas to such an extent that they are illegally killed
I cannot understand why you would not expect a backlash - if the environmental movement had been honest and compromising then maybe the country would be more tolerant towards it, but no, they have not been compromising or realistic in many areas, they have siezed their opportunities to push radical agendas
that is why this country is heading this way
