Hi Martin,
I'd recommend:
Birds of East Asia: China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and Russia (Princeton Field
Guides) by Mark Brazil (Jan 26, 2009)
A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Japan and North-East Asia by Tadao
Shimba (Mar 3, 2008)
Cheers,
Nikolas

Subject: RFI Kyoto guide
A request for the advice of list members.
I have a relative travelling to the Kyoto district (nth to the mountainous
areas I understand) and she wishes to know what the recommended bird ID
guide (or app?) there is the for this part of Japan.
Alternatively any relevant websites or even a list of the most likely
species one might see would be most helpful.
Please advise me directly.
Thanks in anticipation.
