Thu 5 Jul Australian Owlet-nightjar, Crested Shrike-tit Altona CSR Landcare Reserve
Australian Owlet-nightjar (1) Single bird observed at the entrance to its hollow along the 'Blue Loop'. Crested Shrike-tit (2) Adult male foraging low in Acacia paradoxa -second bird heard when making contact calls but not seen. Seen just off 'Orange Loop'.

Wed 4 Jul Double-banded Plover Woods Well, Coorong
23 Double-banded Plover roosting with 3 red-capped plover amongst samphire at edge of flooded saltpan. At least 2 males in full breeding plumage.

Thick-billed Grasswren, Pied & White-fronted Honeyeaters The Monument, 12 kms south of Coober Pedy
In the general vicinty of the The Monument carpark a group of 5 Thick-billed Grasswrens were seen in bluebush. A pair of Pied Honeyeater, one White-fronted Honeyeater, and Crimson & Orange Chats were also located.

Whimbrel, Eastern Curlew Thompson Beach
Whimbrel (2) Sitting with 8 E. Curlew in tight bunch on water's edge on falling tide - viewed from last point of beach access at northern end of Esplanade. **No leg tags/bands Eastern Curlew (8) Sitting with 2 Whimbrel and approx. 200 Pied/Little Pied Cormorant in tight bunch on water's edge on falling tide - viewed from last point of beach access at northern end of Esplanade. Intially dismissed by me as small group of Grey Teal when viewed through bin's - Scope proved otherwise! **No leg tags/bands

Tue 3 Jul Letter-winged Kite Innaminka Regional Reserve
While camping in the Innaminka Regional Reserve earlier this week lucky enough to stumble upon a colony of Letter-Winged Kites. A total of 7 birds were seen within a 1km radius of our campsite. Two active nests were also discovered within the same area. The birds did not seem at all disturbed by our presence and excellent photographs were obtained. Other notable species seen during our trip through the reserve were Australian Bustard, Australian Hobby and Red-backed Kingfisher.

Gibber Chat, Cinnamon Quail-thrush William Creek Road at 29 00S 135 00E 10' Cell
Gibber Chat (1) in flight over road, away from raptors in area. Cinnamon Quail-thrush (2) 1 pair -male & female- feeding quietly 20m from road; quite undisturbed by presence in car. Location approx 33km east of Coober Pedy along William Creek Road.

Mon 2 Jul Red-lored Whistler, Black-eared Miner, Striated Grasswren Gluepot Reserve
1 male Red-lored Whistler, 5 flocks of miners, 2 of which we checked and found containing more-or-less pure-bred Black-eared Miners, 4 Striated Grasswrens, 2 of which came to within 2 metres of the observers

Yellow-billed Spoonbill (1) Far southern end of lagoon; waited an age for it to turn to reveal its bill to confirm identification. Banded Lapwing (6) Far south-western edge of lagoon, viewed from main road.

Grey Falcon Simpson Desert, 226km west of Birdsville on the French Line
Have just returned from two weeks in the Simpson Desert, Innaminka Regional Reserve and the Flinders Ranges. Many birding highlights of which the pinnacle was a single Grey Falcon. Two nice looks through the binoculars but the bird took flight before i could get to the camera. Distinctive yellow legs and smokey grey body.

Black-chinned Honeyeater (2) Pair sighted flying across our yard just after sunrise; one of the pair calling stridently just on sunrise from taller canopy of eucalypts behind our place.
