Brisbane Black-backed Bittern

G'day,

I wrenched myself away from Bribie Island today to visit Brisbane. And at the Metroplex complex, looking from the bridge that separates the two lagoons towards the"south" lagoon, there was a female Black-backed Bittern (we're using IOC taxonomy, right?) on the small island in the middle. Unfortunately, it scuttled away almost as soon as I set eyes on it.

Do any of our Brisbane birders know if these bitterns are being seen there regularly nowadays? In fact, are they still being seen regularly at Sherwood Arboretum?

Cheers - Trevor

Trevor Ford.
