Season finally ends
THE Queen's Birthday holiday signals the end of another duck hunting season.
While there have been fewer ducks on Victorian wetlands this year, rescuers
have seen all the usual bad behaviour by hunters: firing into flocks; birds
shot but not collected; birds collected but not killed quickly and humanely;
and protected species illegally shot.As for rescuers, five were this week
largely cleared of charges arising from last year's closing weekend. This
farcical trial cost thousands of dollars and seven days of the court's
time.Letter to The Saturday Age. The court cases referred to were reported by
ABC radio. Files attached.
