Hi Richard,
Ruth and I were in Chiltern some weeks ago now.
Swift Parrots were easily seen on Langs Track very near to the intersection
with Riley's Road. This area is to the north of Chiltern. If you haven't
done so already, go to the Parks Victoria website and download the Parknote
for Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park:
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/chiltern-mt-pilot-national-park
Also, you should call into the tourist information centre in Chiltern and
get yourself a copy of the "Bird Trails" leaflet which will indicate the
best spots.
We dipped on the Regent Honeyeater this time, but they had been seen in a
couple of locations - at the Honeyeater Picnic Area (it used to be called
Cyanide Dam) - on the track that leads to the south of the carpark (over the
wooden bridge). The other location was in the "usual" spot for Regent
Honeyeaters, on Green Hill Road to the south of Klotz Track. You can also
try looking anywhere along Klotz Track, and in the area I mentioned for the
Swift Parrots.
I must admit that I am not aware of any recent sightings of either the Swift
Parrots or Regent Honeyeaters - so good luck! Keep an eye on Birdline
Victoria - http://www.eremaea.com/BirdlineRecentSightings.aspx?Birdline=1

Subject: RFI - Birding around Chiltern & Wangaratta (Lastest
Sightings)
Hi All,
I'm heading from Perth to cold and wet Chiltern next week for some birding,
mainly looking for Regent Honeyeaters, Swift Parrots, Powerful Owl,
Chestnut-rumped Heathwren and Spotted Quail-thrush. I know White-throated
Nightjar and Painted Honeyeater would be a long shot for this time of year,
but I live in hope!
I'm also planning on heading to Boweya, Killawarra and Warby areas, and if
time allows over to the Barmah area for Superb Parrots. I've found lots of
info about some of the more popular birding sites in the areas, but was
wondering if anyone has any recent specific info about where these birds may
be found in the area, plus any spots with good flowering gums at the moment?
Any other interesting current bird info for the area would be also much
appreciated.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers,
Richard King
