Confirming rumours that have been circulating now for a few weeks, there has been a claimed sighting of Night Parrot from an undisclosed location in north-west Victoria. The lucky observer is an office-holder with Birdlife Australia and boasts over 30 years experience in the field. However, don't get too excited: this report is now many weeks old, and follow-up trips to locate the bird (which included Leo Joseph from the National Night Parrot Network) have been unsuccessful. I have written a story, which includes quotes from an interview with the observer, which will appear in tomorrow's edition of The Age.
