G'day all,

This morning I drove down south of Alice to see if I could relocate the
Scarlet-chested Parrots reported on Birdline NT yesterday. The short
version of the story is - nope. Not entirely surprising, as they were
probably just passing through but I had to have a go.

It was an outstanding drive in every other regard. The country is looking
amazing after a light bit of rain a couple of weeks back. Red Kangaroos
were in bigger mobs than I've seen in years; at least 30 in one mob and
mobs of 20 were common. There were plenty of Wedge-tailed Eagles with young
birds at a few roadkills and I counted 6 Spotted Harriers between Mt
Breaden and Alice.

Everywhere I stopped by the Stuart Highway was alive with calls;
White-fronted Honeyeaters seemed particularly abundant, as did Chiming
Wedgebills.

Cheers,

Chris Watson
