Moderators Should Check Every Post

Carl (and others)

It's a bit of a balance between safety and reader convenience (ie
everyone manually moderated and no spam) and speed of posting (ie no
moderating and heaps of spam).

The balance that Russell has gone for is, as you know, individual
people (new members and, shall we say "some others") being manually
moderated. It's never going to be a system that's perfect, as you can
see with the occasional bits of spam slipping through, in this case,
by claiming to be from an address that is (or, should I say "was")
unmoderated. On the other hand, when people who are on the moderated
list post, there's often a long delay in delivery if no moderators are
on-line. There are only about five of us, and particuarly on weekends
or at night, we're not available, so postings have to wait. You may
have noticed there's often a flurry of posts at about 5am on weekdays,
as one of the moderators gets up at an unfeasibly early hour
(personally I think he has his blackberry inserted in his cranial
cavity and he moderates while he sleeps - legend!).

Personally, I'm happy with the way things are.

Bill (also a proud member of the "moderated" list - how does that work?)
