Immodestly, here's my letter in reply, published today:
Blame the birds
MARVELLOUS piece by Andrew Cox on our time-honoured shooting tradition (Comment
& Debate, 22/3). If ducks don't want to fight back against we shooters, they've
only themselves to blame.
A couple of points: We don't stand splay-legged over our dead quarry; we hang
them from special belts around our waist, a bit like Adam Ant used to wear his
scarves.
And we don't snap duck necks; we prefer the slower, more showy method of
holding their heads and swinging them around by the neck.
