Denise, I have never posted to this listserve before so if this does not go
through, please pass it on.
Thank you all for the help regarding the id of what it seems was most probably
a Rufus Whistler. It was amongst Striated Thornbills. I used the wording "all
around me" when to exact, they were more above me. There are a whole group of
shots of Striated beginning with this one http://flic.kr/p/bzJZ8H all from
Black Hill Reserve in Kyneton, VIC where these sightings took place.
The size of the bird in question was possibly a problem. As I said, it landed
above me and I snapped a few quick photos before it flitted off. Size-wise it
was small. In the moment, and viewed through the viewfinder, it seemed about
the size of the thornbills, but in retrospect... it could have been and
probably was, a bit larger.
