Hi All
The messages below are fairly self explanatory. If there is anyone out there
who could possibly help, could you contact David either directly or through me.
Cheers Roy

Hi Roy
Thank you very much, of course your idea is good. Please, put my message on the
australian birding chatline, if it is possible to contact someone who can help
me.
I am interested in working in a farm, too. So if you have any other idea about
this please go ahead. I have british nationality, I think this can be helpful.
I´m looking fordward to hearing you and having good news.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards David Ríos
Hi David
It was good to hearfrom you. Of course I remember you and I was only recently
looking at the 'Field Guide to the Birds of the Straits of Gibraltar' when I
was researching some southern European birds. (You may remember that we worked
with Programa Migres in 2000). Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been
away and we have been busy looking after grandchildren.
I am now mostly retired. We have not been to Rutland Water (Birdfair) since
2007. I still do some small tours and am, of course, still very interested in
birds. I no longer do any ringing (banding) work. I am disappointed that I
can't help you personally . However if you like I can put your message on an
Australian birding chatline and ask if anyone can help you with what you are
hoping to do. Something may turn up that way. Let me know what you think
about this and if you would like me to go ahead with this. If you do make it
to Brisbane you would be very welcome to stay with us for a few days.
Best wishes Roy
Hi Roy
I met you a few years ago at an Andalucia stand in British Bird Watching Fair
(Rutland Water), where I was representing my company Ornitour, I am not sure if
you remember me very well? I am also one of the authors of the publication
Field Guide to the Birds of the Straits of Gibraltar.
I am writing to you because I am interested in learning the language in your
country, it is a subject I still have pending and now as there is little work
in Spain I think this is the time to do it. On two occasions I have visited
Spanish friends in Sydney and it is truly; the fact that “Australia touches the
soul of those who visit”. It was an amazing experience, but it was difficult to
learn the language with my Spanish friends, speaking Spanish all the time.
On my first visit I went to the Olympic Park with Judy Harrington on a tour to
see the frogs and the following day Judy, a very nice lady, gave me permission
to accompany her to see the birds in the same park.
Well Roy, I don’t want to think that at 44 years of age I am not too old to
make this trip and learn the language; I have always had an adventurous spirit…
Could you help me? And let me know if I could come over for a few months and
work on any of the projects related to birds: for example; being a ringer or
something to do with nature in general? I have been an experienced ringer for
28yrs and a professional ornithologist for 18yrs.
My English level is intermediate; I have British passport as well as Spanish
which might prove useful… I don’t know or maybe not!
If you could help me I would be very grateful… say hello to Helen.
Kind regards
David Rios
