Casual observation over years of bird watching suggests to me that various
Australian birds recognise the alarm calls (directed towards the presence of
raptors, goannas, snakes etc) of other species as being exactly what they
are.

However without getting technical about it, I wonder whether anyone has
assembled any actual evidence that various Australian bird species correctly
understand alarm calls when made by another species, particularly not
closely related species.

Any quick and simple comments appreciated as I hope to use this for a non
technical and non ornithological audience.
You could try
