Hi everyone,
Yesterday, Dave Marshall and I birded parts of the Shoalhaven and
Illawarra, on the NSW South Coast. We visited lots of the local hotspots,
which were also popular with the endless stream of returning tourists from
Sydney! However, in the warm and windy conditions, we managed to find 140
species for the day, including quite a few of the local specialities. Below
are some of the highlights:
Bellawongarah (Berry Mountain)
Topknot Pigeon: 3
Gang-gang Cockatoo: 2
Eastern Bristlebird: 1
Green Catbird: 2
Bomaderry Creek Regional Park
Rockwarbler: 1
Yellow-tufted Honeyeater: 4
Cicadabird: 1
Ben’s Walk (Nowra)
Southern Emu-wren: 3
White-eared Honeyeater: 1
Scarlet Honeyeater: 2
Nowra Hill
Square-tailed Kite: 1
White-throated Needletail: 12
Jacky Winter: 2
Shoalhaven Heads
Striated Heron: 1
Nankeen Night Heron: 1
Ruddy Turnstone: 1
Common Greenshank: 3
Lake Illawarra
Little Egret: 1
Striated Heron: 1
Red-kneed Dotterel: 6
Peregrine Falcon: 1
White-plumed Honeyeater: 5
A fun start to the New Year!
Cheers,
Nigel Jackett
