to Mike's note below, as well as posting to the list, last year I constructed a very basic excel sheet that I use to record my swift observations, which I then sent to Mike at the end of the season. If anybody would like a copy, please contact me off list and I'll send it back - or you could construct your own, as the column headings I use are fairly simple, as follows:

Date
Time
Location
Numbers
Species (ie WTNT or Fork Tailed or both)
Weather conditions
Other Comments (eg behaviour seen, duration of sighting)

I partly did this because I found it helped me to remember to record the sightings (especially when I see parties 2 or 3 times in a day when I'm at home), so even when I did not get around to posting them to birding-aus, Mike got more observations from me than he may have otherwise.
