Hello all. This morning I was watching a Jacana at Dowse Lagoon, Sandgate (Brisbane) when I suddenly realised it was being stalked by a very large Water Rat. Lucky for the bird it woke up to what was happening just in time and retreated to the safety of a retaining wall. This is the first time I've seen a Jacana resting on an artificial structure! Check it out at http://www.pbase.com/sjmurray/jacanavwater_rat I've seen a Water Rat stalking water birds before, but never successfully. Anyone else seen this?
