I hope the handler had a thick leather gauntlet.
Did you notice the waving fine feathers on the wing leading edges which allegedly contribute to the owl's silent approach?

camera.  The last two or three seconds are amazing - the braking action of the wings, the 
feathers ruffling and the talons opening and spreading. Interesting to watch the corrections
