I think we should remind ourselves here that the Oxford Complete Dictionary, 
(all 20 volumes if it), is not a prescriptive "this is how you must use it", 
publication, but rather a publication describing how words have been previously 
used. The original editors just asked the public to submit words and give 
reference to previously published usage of the word.  Millions of submissions 
were received.  From these submissions, the dictionary was compiled. So it is 
nothing more than a list of how words had been used up til then.  So to use a 
word differently today does not make it "wrong", just different.
