I have been birding at Banyule Flats Reserve since 1975 and these days I seldom see a new bird there. This afternoon I was on the muddy riverside track close to the junction with the Main Yarra Trail, on the riverbank east of the Somerset Drive car-park. A bird was hopping up a dead wattle. It looked and moved like a Tree-creeper - as it came into the sunlight at the tree-top, I got the binoculars onto it and heavens, it WAS a White-throated Tree-creeper! Presumably a female, because I clearly saw the rufous tag on its cheek. I could not see the rump (rufous in immature birds) as it ducked behind the tree and flew off further downstream into thicker living wattles. No calls were heard. Just proves you never know with birds. As far as I know WTTCs have not been recorded in Heidelberg before.
