Checked-out the many small wetlands along Cove Road, Stanmore yesterday
morning (Stanmore is a locality between Beerwah and Woodford, SEQ). Found two
male and one female Australasian Shoveler on a natural wetland, a species not
often seen on the Sunshine Coast and environs. Also single Glossy Ibis at a
couple of spots, a raft of 36 Australasian Grebe on a large dam, and three
flocks of Plumed Whistling-Duck converging in the air and then all 60+ landing
on water.
Also found a Noisy Pitta in sparse, degraded riverine rainforest
alongside the Stanley River at Commissioners Flat, same site where I heard one
last September. A small stock dam nearby held both Pacific and White-faced
Heron, and a pair of Azure Kingfisher sitting in the open on small bushes
beside the dam.
