Hi all,

My son and I have seen a square-tailed kite (great clear views of the squared tail and of the dark comma-marks on the wings) a few times over the last week and a bit. Glides very low.

Yesterday morning we were at a non-birding friend's new home in Riverstone, and she was telling us about the parrots in a nearby flowering eucalypt (gum?).

I said 'Keep an eye out, there's also been a square-tailed kite about this week'. At that very instant it flew over and she said, 'Oh! what's that?' to which I replied, 'That's the square-tailed kite!', and ran off to see it while she resumed pegging out the laundry. . .

At least she's interested enough to take notice and ask about the parrots and the big bird, even if she won't chase them!

Cheers,
Gordon Cain
