Good Afternoon Everyone

I have just returned from a
trip up to the middle of Cape York in a successful effort to photograph the
Golden Shouldered Parrot as it had been my wish to do this since I saw a
fantastic photo that Clifford Frith had taken a few years ago. With the
generous help of Tom & Sue Shephard and my mate David Milson I was able to
photograph a termite mound that had a nest in it with 5 Juveniles that were
within days of leaving the nest and I was lucky enough to catch a shot of an
adult male and Juvenile poking its head out of the hole in the mound. Before
anyone gets on their hi-horse and says I should not have been near the nest
I was at least 20 metres from it as I used the 800mm lens and only due to
Sues ongoing research into these birds was I able to be shown the birds in
the mound. What was also interesting about this nest was that the first pair
of birds to arrive at the mound were an immature pair and at first I thought
they were the parents and it wasn't till a full adult male turned up about
an hour later that I realised that the immature pair were only looking at
the hole. I was also fortunate enough to meet Dave Stewart and his partner
Sheena whom along with Lloyd Nielsen were also heading up to Musgrave but
due to car troubles Sheena and Dave could not continue on past Mt Molloy and
Lloyd and I spent 4 days camped up at Musgrave, I learnt so much from a man
who has such vast knowledge of the birds up in that area. One of the
highlights and there were many was of a Feather-tailed Glider landing right
next to our camp one evening before scampering up a 1.5 metre gum and
allowing us to take some photos using our head torches. I have just put up
the first 16 shots from this trip as I photographed around Julatten,
Musgrave and Pormpuraaw which is 210 klms west of Musgrave on the Gulf. (
and you can only take real soft drink! Into there as you are not allowed to
have alcohol in your possession ) Here is the usual link
