The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period 
Monday, May 16, 2011 to Sunday, May 22, 2011:

Date: Sunday, May 15, 2011

Location: Mosquito Point, Coorong

Brown Quail (Coturnix ypsilophora) (5) Convoy of 5 Brown Quails, which I very 
nearly stepped on before in a whirr of wingbeats they were gone!

Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) (1) Sitting in sand on edge of 
sand-dune with a still wiggling Skink of some sort in it's beak.

Also found a number of Stubble Quails in various different parts of the Coorong 
during the OBP survey.

Location: Tauwitcherie Island (Ewe Island Barrage end), Coorong

White-bellied Sea-Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) (1) Immature bird perched on 
rock near end of barrage took off and headed off circling out over Lake 
Alexandrina.

Seen during OBP Survey.

Date: Sunday, May 15, 2011

Location: Seven Mile Rd, Coorong NP.

Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) (2000) We estimated 2000 Pelicans 
in this area. The weather was perfect, water was like a millpond. The Pelicans 
were dotted everywhere, as far as the eye could see, just sitting, occasionally 
a group flying by. At every resting place along the coast line many groups of 
Pelicans. We had never seen a sight like this before and was quiet spectacular 
to see.

Hoary-headed Grebe (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) (90) The Hoary-headed Grebe's 
were scattered all along this section, some feeding with Silver Gull's near by 
waiting for an easy meal.

Caspian Tern (Sterna caspia) (50) 50 Caspian Tern resting in a lake behing the 
road. 100 Shelduck arrived and left again.

Good birding again in this area of the Narrung Peninsular. 3000 Silver Gull 
dotted around amongst the Pelicans and HH Grebes. 19 Pied Oystercatchers around 
the edge of the lake along with 80 Crested Tern and 50 Chestnut Teal Sharing 
the same place as the Caspian Tern. OPB survey day but no Neophem's through

Location: Mark Point, Coorong NP.

Rock Parrot (Neophema petrophila) (35) Rock Parrots found feeding a few Klm's 
north of Mark Point.  Photos taken and eventually 35 flushed along with 1 Brown 
Quail.

Bluebonnet (Northiella haematogaster) (2) Bluebonnet's feeding along the 
roadside just before the Rock Parrots were sighted.

Caspian Tern (Sterna caspia) (46) A very large number of Caspian Terns, resting 
in a small lake near Long Point with twice as many Crested Terns and a few 
Whiskered Terns flying around.

55 birds species found along this coast during the OBP survey. Frequent flyby's 
of Great Cormorants. Peter Gower and Teresa Jack.

Location: Boundary Creek Barrage, Coorong (Private Property)

Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) (1) 1 Litte Egret on freshwater side catching 
small Bony Bream caught in the eddy created by the force of the water pushing 
though the gates. Litte Egret on one side of Barrage, Great Egret on other.

Golden-headed Cisticola (Cisticola exilis) (1) In reeds not far from where the 
Egrets were seen on freshwater side.

Beautiful Firetail (Stagonopleura bella) (3) Playing hide and seek with us in 
the low bushes on Ewe Island. Distant photo taken when one popped up on a bush 
a far way off, when close they stayed very low in under bushes no chance of 
photo.

Rock Parrot (Neophema petrophila) (6) Feeding in same area as the Firetails.

Little Grassbird (Megalurus gramineus) (1) Also near where Firetails were.

All found during Orange-bellied Parrot survey.

Spotted Nightjar (Eurostopodus argus) (1) A single bird, about 350m west of 
water butt.

Australian Owlet-nightjar (Aegotheles cristatus) (1) Two, possibly three in 
square of old growth Mallee.

Dusky Woodswallow (Artamus cyanopterus) (23+) Hawking for insects. Noticed from 
calls coming from above my house. Conservative numbers estimate, first time i 
have seen them above Freeling.

Location: Military Rd, Dawesley/Native Valley, eastern MLR - private property 
(approx 1.2km NNE of Princes Hwy)

Flame Robin (Petroica phoenicea) (2) Females observed in mixed flock with the 
following. Landholder (Sam Rothe) has observed male as well this year, plus 
small numbers that turn up every year since at least 2005, between April and 
August.

Diamond Firetail (Stagonopleura guttata) (3) 1 seen foraging in low pasture 
(near cattle) with other species listed on edge of 10-15yo revegetation.

Yellow-rumped Thornbill (Acanthiza chrysorrhoa) (10+) Foraging on ground with 
both of the above

Grey Shrike-thrush (Colluricincla harmonica) (2) As above - tended to stay in 
reveg though.

Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa) (2) As above - tended to stay in reveg.
