Hi all,
While up at the big mall today (marking student papers in the library),
I had lunch on the grass out the back overlooking the flood control ponds.
Saw the usual suspects, but added a new one to the list -- an azure
kingfisher flew under the footbridge over the pond, where normally only
welcome swallows live. It flew under there a couple times -- perhaps has
a nest hole there? had a couple good views of it, and saw plenty of
diving into the water.
Also saw white faced heron and Australasian grebes, plus eastern
rosellas in the bush bush nearby. Missing were the usual swallows and
pacific blacks.
I haven't paid much attention to this spot, but as a bushy and well-set
up pond in the midst of suburbia, it may be worth the occasional check.
Cheers
