Hi Tom and Andrew,

Based on size there are indeed two options: (1) female Sparrowhawk, (2) male
Goshawk.
However, slender overall structure, slender tarsi, pale yellow iris and
square-looking tail point towards female Sparrowhawk.

Cheers,

Nikolas

Hi Tom

The article says that the journalists originally identified it as a goshawk
but people emailed in to correct them - including a zoologist from the
Natural History Museum who is "certain" it is a sparrowhawk. So there was
some confusion and doubt!  Maybe still is.

Hi Andrew,

I'm aware that a similar thread was recently on B-A but I think that this
may be a Goshawk rather than a Sparrowhawk! (though I'm quite happy to be
corrected!)
