Hi all,
Just received a report from Michael Green of small population (at least 8
individuals) of Tawny Grassbird at Ilparpa Swamp in Alice Springs (see
http://www.eremaea.com/BirdlineRecentSightings.aspx?Birdline=6).
Of interest the nearest records of Tawny Grassbird to Alice Springs are from
Riversleigh on the Gregory River near Mt Isa, and from Kalkarindji (Wave Hill)
near Timber Ck. Both sites are approx. 1000 km from Alice.
Good conditions in central Australia may have helped this bird expand into
areas previously unrecorded, presumably moving along river and flood systems.
Another option is displacement due to floods.
Cheers,
Tim Dolby
