I am off to Turkey and Arctic Russia later this year and plan to tag onto
this a birding trip of about 16 days to either Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan -
either at the beginning (second half of July) or the end (second half of
August) of my sojourn.
If I opt for Kyrgyzstan, I will go to a relatively newish area that is
opening up for Snow Leopard - the chances are not great at this time of the
year, but the operators are getting more and more field information as time
goes on, and it's stunning countryside: see this for a taste:
http://www.mammalwatching.com/Palearctic/palearctkyrgyzstan.html.
On the other hand, Kazakhstan offers a bigger birding list and also some
great - though less mountainous - scenery.
I don't have costings yet but if I can get a group of 3-4 then obviously it
helps bring costs down. So this is a tentative feeler to see if anyone is
interested.
