Australian Painted Snipe
Wanganella swamps, Deniliquin district
Five to six Australian Painted Snipe, possibly the same birds as recorded in November when two males and a female and a nest with four eggs were recorded. Three of those eggs are thought to have hatched. Also seen today: thirty to forty Latham's Snipe, about one hundred Red-kneed Dotterels (adults and immatures), half a dozen Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, a few Glossy Ibis and fifty or so Whiskered Terns. Water level in the swamps is dropping dramatically; some Hoary-headed Grebes and terns have abandoned nests. Ibis are still hanging in there.

Grey Goshawk
21 Coulters Rd; Talarm, near Bowraville
Sighted a pair of White Morphs this morning around 10.30am. Have lived here for over 20 yrs & never sighted this species before. Female flying lower than male sighted at approx 30meters high (tree level), then 1 hour later in the tree tops.
Possible sighting yesterday around 3pm but flying to high (300m +) and because of white plumage against light blue sky could not maintain sighting

Pied Butcherbird
Woolshed Road, Wamboin
On Sunday we were driving along Woolshed Road, Wamboin, when a Pied Butcherbird flew across the road in front of us - and kept going. We had good enough views to be fully confident that it was not a Grey Butcherbird.
This is my first obs of this species in the Wamboin/Bywong area (btn Canberra and Lake George). It is rare in this part of the State.

Plains Wanderers
Wanganella-Deniliquin area
During an organised tour on private property I observed c.8 Plains Wanderers during spotlighting at night with females and males both observed, the males having one to two young in their care.
The area around Denilquin is impressive at the moment with all wetlands and rivers at capacity. The area is green and there is a large amount of food around. The birds are taking advantage of this and large numbers of young are present. Well worth a visit before the water levels drop.

Wandering Tattler
Hastings Point, Far North Coast
I observed 4 birds resting on the rocks on the north side of the point today. All diagnostic features including call were recorded. The birds were very relaxed & allowed themselves to be photographed quite closely. Thanks to Paul Walbridge for the site tip-off - this record was part consolation for today's cancelled Southport pelagic due to high winds & large swells, for which I had flown down from Cairns the day prior. I am unsure if these numbers of this quite uncommon species had been recorded at this site this season.
