A few nice sightings today Jan 9 whilst dodging the storms on the Atherton
Tablelands:

Cassowary- the male from Cassowary House has 3 well grown juvs which are now
almost half way to being independent and driven off.

White Pygmy Goose pair and juv. at Hastie's Swamp, good to see them still here
after being so scarce in the past couple of years locally. Almost no other
ducks around beyond 2 Wandering Whistling Ducks and a couple of Pac Blacks.

Square-tailed Kite 1 Hastie's Swamp, my first sighting there and presumed an
imm. as it was a striking bird with whitish upperwing coverts, whitish patches
to the bases of the primaries on the upperwing, a whitish head, and a small
whitish patch at the base of the tail.

White-bellied Sea Eagle ad sat on huge irrigation array, then feeding on ground
in newly mown field by Hastie's Swamp

Red-necked Crake A pair at Cassowary House Kuranda have at least one juv.

Buff-banded rails- Pair with one small juv and pair with 2 juvs near Hastie's
Swamp

Tawny Frogmouth one sitting on nest in pine tree at Granite Gorge, a
ridiculously open site

Galah 16 at Mareeba, been scarce of late
