That is a very interesting read about the Ireali farmers increasing the
numbers of Barn Owls to help reduce mainly rodent pests by erecting heaps of
nest boxes and hunting perches for them. Were not the cane farmers in
Queensland once doing something similar to this?

In Israel, they've gone about this very practically. In agricultural fields
where rodents predominate, they erected nesting boxes for both barn owls and
kestrels. These encouraged their inhabitants to breed and thus provide food
for their young. Rat and mouse populations plummeted.
Maybe the Canadians should be told.
