Indeed - numbers at coastal sites such as the Werribee region are way down - see for example the comparison in numbers between 2009 and 2010 at http://boca.org.au/component/docman/doc_download/504-1974-to-2010-bird-count-summary-werribee-area, which shows the result of annual BOCA Challenge Bird Count in the Werribee Area. Last year - 5,000 Pink-ears - this year 1! Hardhead have dropped from 7,000 to 8!
