For Victorians, the election is almost here. Those of us who care about
salvaging habitat for birds have little choice this Saturday.

Labor and the Coalition both favour allowing duck shooting to continue,
regardless of waterbird numbers and health or otherwise of the wetlands
Hunting is to be allowed in the new Red Gum National Parks
Marine national parks, on which our sea birds depend, will not be increased in
either number or size
Flora and fauna reserves like The Pines, near Frankston, will be lost to the
Peninsula Link Freeway because there is no such thing as proper community
consultation or environment effects processes under Mr Brumby's government.
It would be inappropriate to advocate here for any particular candidate or
party. Talk to your local candidates and ask for their views on the environment
- the forgotton election issue. And please, this Saturday, think about the
birds before you vote.
