What an interesting list of waders! I am particularly interested in your
report of 300+ Banded Stilt. Did you notice if the group contained any
juveniles? There was a major breeding event in Lake Torrens, SA, in June and I
am anxious to map the dispersal of the flock, and their offspring, as they
return to non-breeding sites. In 2008 a Banded Stilt that had been banded as a
chick in The Coorong in 2006 was seen nearby at Yalgorup National Park so it is
possible that some of the Lake Torrens flock could be at Lake McLarty. A small
number of Lake Torrens chicks were banded and flagged with the SA code of
Orange and Yellow, both on the upper left leg (Coorong chicks were flagged on
the upper right leg).
