Hi Everyone,

Just letting you know that the migratory terns are present on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, in good numbers again for the summer season. My team of experienced people did a shorebird and tern survey in the Noosa estuary yesterday, as we do in every month of the year. We cover the high and low tides of the day with a break in between, followed by an evening count of terns arriving from the ocean to roost for the night.

Last night as we started the evening count I estimated the flock already roosting to be about 2350 strong, with 60% being migratory terns (Common, White-wing and Little) and 40% being Crested Terns. In the following hour and a half we added to that by 3500 Cresteds and 5880 migrants.

We failed to find the pair of Beach Stone-curlews. If anyone sees them in the estuary, would you kindly let me know?

Cheers,

Jill
