Subject: Ostrich directions
Hi all,
I have had a few emails asking for more details about where to see the
Ostriches. Here is a clip from my original email plus a few more details
As I drove north-west on the NSW side of the Murray I came around a corner
and there, standing in long grass and purple flowers, was a gathering of
Ostriches. The GPS was 35d 38m 21s - 144d 21m 42s
It is hard to give verbal directions because I didn't take milages to
corners and there were no real land marks. They were on the north side Moama
to Barham road and at a guess, about 10 kms east of its "T" intersection
with the Barham to Deniliquin Rd. I didn't see the property name but if you
have a GPS that will be your best bet. The time I saw them was at about
1130. They were very shy and the ones near the road moved off very quickly.
They are unfenced so they may travel up and down the road or away from it.
You may just have to look around.
If you are interested I have put an image on the BOCA Gallery site. Thinking
about it, if you look for those strange power poles with the trees behind
them that might be a good landmark to start from.
Sigh, how I wish though that they were as exciting as a Grey-headed Lapwing
or Arabian Shearwater.
cheers and good luck
Jen
