Well done Heath, that's a lot of Great-crested Grebe in one place! Thanks for
this valuable information.
When you get back to Brisbane you will have to make sure you attend some of the
interesting birding activities organised around Brisbane by Birds Queensland.
There is good list of activities on the Birds Queensland site, see:
http://birdsqueensland.org.au/activities.php
One things that is really worthwhile it the Armchair Twitch organised by Birds
Australia (Southern Queensland). It's a really fun event, really relaxing and
makes money for the conservation of wild birds. See:
http://www.birdsaustralia.com.au/the-organisation/armchair-twitch.html
Have fun birding, and let us know what you saw in North Queensland. Lol :-)

Subject: Large flock of Great Crested Grebe
I am 8 years old. On my first bird-watching trip to North Queensland my dad
and I saw 118 Great Crested Grebes in a single flock at Lake Barine on the
Atherton Tablelands. This was on the 29th September 2010. Some were diving
down to catch fish and coming up with fish in their beaks. There was a mixture
of adults and immature grebes.
We were amazed to see so many together! Is this unusual?
