Wonder if anyone can help out with a question.
Hubby and I bought our home in June 2003 in northern Brisbane. When we arrived
there was a resident magpie who was extremely friendly. As in walked inside our
home on the day of purchase which really surprised us. The previous owners must
have been on extremely friendly terms with her.
2003 winter, she built a nest in one of our many backyard pine tree and raised
2 chicks.
2004 to 2009 she moved from one pine tree (we have many of them) to another
nest building and raised 3 chicks each season.
This year 2010 she has raised 4 chicks and all four are flying about our back
yard. Oddly enough, she is making yet another nest in a different spot in the
same pine tree.
We know that she is definitely 9 years old ... 2003 to 2010 plus 2 years to
mature to be productiive.
Hubby and I were wondering does anyone know just how long a magpie lives ? Our
very friendly female has had just two male partners from 2003 to 2010 - is that
what you call them - partners ?
