Subject: [Norton AntiSpam] [Birding-Aus] No Princess Parrots yet...
I drove the Tjukaruru (Docker River) road two weekends ago, and no PPs and
this road is now impassable due to yet more rain. One of our trucks got
itself in a spot of bother while trying to get through to the community and
was forced to head back to Mutitjulu.
I drove the Gary Junction Hwy (Kintore rd) last weekend and only narrowly
made it back to Alice. I am due to head back out there this weekend but the
road may be impassable past Mt Leibig. Last weekend I had excellent views of
vast flocks of Masked Woodswallow, and saw many Chiming Wedgebill. Black
Honeyeaters and Pied Honeyeaters abound, but no PPs on this rd either yet.
The drizzly weather has continued for the last three days here in the centre
but the sun is back for now. All the drivers for my company have been put on
the alert and instructed what to look for - two of them are aviarists with
good knowledge of PPs anyway. We traverse the roads to Docker, Kintore and
Nyapari and Pipalyatjara several times a week and I will get the word out as
soon as the birds begin to spread out, as they surely must. There are plenty
of eyes out there now so I hope we'll be able to get a good picture of how
this irruption unfolds over the coming months.
