The question of whether Australian Ravens occur in the Melbourne suburbs
keeps bobbing up and people keep claiming that they do. In my 45 years as a
resident in Melbourne I have never seen or heard an Aust Raven in the
suburbs, so, I'm sorry but I remain a sceptic. I suggest that any claims
need to be backed up with some details about how the identification was
made. Note that Little Ravens do have throat hackles [the difference is only
one of size and visibility] and Little Ravens can make a call that trails
off. The shape of the bill and forehead is a good distinguishing feature,
though the calls, once learnt, are really quite different.
