Hey, that is interesting ! I've never seen a silver gull looking like that.

Subject: Immature Silver Gull head markings
Hi everyone
Yesterday I had a bit of excitement - a gull with a dark head on the little
beach opposite our place. It turned out to be an immature Silver Gull,
possibly recently off the nest. We get a lot of immature Silver Gulls here,
and many have dark patches on the head, some almost looking like wintering
Black-headed Gulls at first glance.
A friend who saw the photos of yesterday's bird was surprised at the amount
of head colouring (and not surprised that I was trying to turn it into a
Laughing Gull!!) and suggested I put the photos online. You can see it on
the Birding-Aus website:
Go to http://birding-aus.org/ and click the Gallery tab.
You'll notice that the site has changed a lot - for a start, all mailing
list messages appear on the site, threaded by topic (replies to a topic
usually appear as a Comment).
Whilst it is possible to make a comment directly on the site, please keep in
mind that those comments DO NOT circulate through the mailing list. If you
want to say something to Birding-Aus, you still need to send a message to
Other parts of the site are still under construction, but when I get a
chance all the links from the old site will appear on the new one, and I
hope to have a few more interactive features.
Regards
Russell
